Building Brighter Futures Together

YouthBuild champions today’s opportunity youth who aspire to improve their lives and communities by building the skills and resources to reach their full potential. Through hundreds of YouthBuild programs, these young people pursue their education, prepare for future careers, and grow into community leaders—building brighter futures for themselves, their neighborhoods, and our world.

“This is a place to grow. This is a place to thrive. This is a place to achieve things you never thought you could achieve.”

Students earn job skills and credentials in construction, as well as other high-demand industries like healthcare, retail, and information technology

Untapped Potential

With love and respect, YouthBuild partners with opportunity youth to build the skillsets and mindsets that lead to lifelong learning, livelihood, and leadership. In the United States, opportunity youth are young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who are out of school and out of work. In many countries outside of the US, this group may include those between 15 and 29 years of age.
Within the opportunity youth population, YouthBuild primarily serves young people who lack a high school diploma and financial resources. These young people are in greatest need of tools to succeed, and they are our greatest source of untapped potential to bolster economic mobility and transform the world. YouthBuild works and makes a difference for young people that other networks exclude.

Global Youth in Context

Opportunity youth may not be able to access the systems that would otherwise help them develop the knowledge, skills, and sense of purpose that lead to productive livelihoods and economic self-sufficiency. All too often, they are viewed by society as a problem, not part of a solution.

Globally there are over 245 million young people who are not in employment, education, or training

The global youth unemployment rate is nearly 3.5 times higher than that of adults

In the United States, opportunity youth are twice as likely to live in poverty

Society’s failure to engage these young adults costs an estimated $55 billion in the United States alone

“You need money to survive. I was desperate for something to do and so YouthBuild was a blessing.”

Testimonials

My name is Jennyfer Gibson, and I am a HiSET graduate. I attended the YouthBuild program, where my teacher, Mrs. Chantel Williams, taught me everything I needed to prepare for the HiSET test.

The first time I took the test, I passed every subject except math. With the help of Mrs. Williams and a few more attempts, I was able to pass the math section and graduate.

I would like to thank my family for all the encouragement they gave me, and everyone at YouthBuild for their help and kindness. I also want to give a very special thanks to Mrs. Chantel Williams for her dedication, the love she showed, and everything she taught me.

While attending YouthBuild, I received my high school equivalency diploma, NCCER Certification for construction, CPR certification and employment.

My name is Heaven Jordan, and I enrolled in the HiSET program on August 18, 2025, because I wanted to complete my education and begin building a better future for myself. I knew earning my diploma would open the door to further education and more job opportunities.

During the program, one challenge I faced was staying organized and managing everything so I would not fall behind. Before enrolling in YouthBuild, my math skills were limited, but throughout the program, I learned a great deal and became more confident in my abilities.

I am thankful for the support of my mom, siblings, and my teacher, Mrs. Chantel Williams. Her empowering teaching style and guidance helped me stay motivated and played a big role in my success.

In the future, I plan to attend college and pursue a career in the medical field. I am proud of how far I have come and excited for what lies ahead. While attending YouthBuild, I received my high school equivalency diploma, NCCER certification for construction and gained valuable job opportunities.
